For the July edition of Don't Techno For An Answer, we're proud to announce that we have a special 2-hour performance by Kyle Geiger of Drumcode Records,

"Named in DJ Mag as the "breakthrough DJ of 2008" by Adam Beyer, the last year has proven to be nothing short of that title for Kyle Geiger. Within the first year of his premier vinyl release, Kyle has achieved international notoriety, a feat that many never accomplish in their entire career as a DJ/producer. Having played literally all over America, the Indiana-based producer is set to storm the international scene. With two European tours under his belt already, including two performances at the widely touted Berghain in Berlin (Voted by ResidentAdvisor.net as the 1 club in the world), rounded off with a stop at the Dance Valley festival in Amsterdam this summer, Kyle is certainly prepared for the big things 2009 is already promising to bring.

Kyle's quick rise in the international dance scene is due to both his production prowess, and his explosive decks and effects DJ sets that bridge the divide between techno and minimal. Kyle is not a producer first, DJ second, but chooses to look at both aspects of DJ and production as a whole; one is not complete without the other.

Originally inspired by the harder, percussive stylings of late 90's Swedish techno featured on seminal labels like Drumcode and Code Red, Kyle has witnessed the evolution of the genre as it morphed into a slower, groove based sound. Still loving the energy and power of the earlier phases of techno while embracing the genre's changes, Kyle has refined his productions and DJ sets into what very well may be a new breed of techno that pushes things forward for the next generation of techno to come.

Initially urged on by long time friends and minimal techno veterans JPLS and Skoozbot, a demo made it to Drumcode label manager Adam Beyer who was on the hunt for what he describes as a "modern techno sound". Beyer immediately put Kyle's tracks to the test at the 2007 Winter Music Conference and invited him onboard as a Drumcode artist. With two highly regarded releases on Adam Beyer's Drumcode label, remixes for Droid Recordings, Renovatio and MB Elektronics, and licensed tracks for the legendary Music Man and Harthouse labels' mix compilations, the future is proving to be a very promising place for Kyle Geiger as he continues to take his widely recognized DJ set around the world and to the next level. Providing the early flowjob support: Will Azada and Gregory Alan

Will Azada (KnoxEDM -- Knoxville, TN)

"Taking a no-compromise approach to his music and sets, Will Azada is the purveyor of all things raw. Not always predictable, but definitely tasteful, he successfully straddles the more soulful and funky world of house, with the mechanized percussive stylings of techno to create a hybrid "tech-house" sound. As a DJ, his sets fuse the classic tracks of the '80s and '90s with contemporary releases, to add a robust, yet nostalgic flavor to every mix. Not a fan of the too-common DJ mentality of "playing only the latest, 'hottest' and unreleased" tracks, Will brings it all to the table at each and every performance.

As a producer, Will Azada, under his "Funnel" moniker, has dedicated himself to perfecting his sound, building a stable of original tracks and unofficial remixes, hoping to one day establish his own label, and give back to the community that has inspired him to stay focused, stay positive, and pump out music."

After a long-awaited return from the inaugural DTFAA in March, KnoxEDM has established a series of techno-centric events at the Longbranch, showcasing Knoxville's top techno talent, with one of the punchiest sound systems, and craziest crowds in town.

For June's edition of DTFAA, we have shortened the lineup by one, but increased the set times for each DJ to better bring a cohesive sound for everyone to vibe on and get loose:

SQUAREWAVE 12:45 - 2:00

SAVAGE 10:45 - 12:45

John Savage is known to play all manner of funky music and one can only guess in what direction he'll choose to take the vibe. Most likely he'll take it in every direction before it's all said and done. He likes to change the tempo and energy up quite a bit to keep you guessing and loves to drop the surprise banger that gets everybody smiling, ... See morepumping the fist or dancing until they pull a hammy. He most always plays a mixed bag of techy flavored music that spans several styles, genres and decades. You aren't likely to find any trance, electro house or dubstep in his record bag but will be pleased to know there are nearly no other constraints on the variety of funk he will purvey. You will be treated to a taste of quirky, pumpin vibes that are equally at home on the shores of Ibiza or the moons Jupiter. In recent news, it has been reported that Mr. Savage was so furiously engaged in the mix, that his arm broke and needed emergency surgery. However, he has been fully re-assembled and will be ready to pump the jams to the max when it's time to Don't Techno.

THE FUNNEL 9:00 - 10:45
soundcloud

The genetic son of famed techno mavens Robert Hood, Richie Hawtin, Jeff Mills, Adam Beyer, Chris Liebing, and the Techno Viking (after a night of intense "experimentation"), the Funnel is considered by some to be a god among men, and he doesn't apologize for playing only the best that funky, poppin' techno-house has to offer. Destined for a spot at the peak of Mt. Everest, slamming four-to-the-floor from throughout the atmosphere, this guy will force feed you the fierceness, twelve thick inches by twelve thick inches. The ladies love him. The guys want to be him. Their moms want to work on producing some fresh siblings with him. He is known to have at least a dozen children on each continent of the world, due to his famed and gloried travels of superstar DJ scene conquering. This is the story, of, THE FUNNEL.

AS BEFORE, THIS SHOW IS COMPLETELY FREE, FREE, FREEEEEEEEE (but we encourage donations)

08/08/10 – Lords of Acid and Thrill Kill Kult – The Valarium

SEXTACY BALL 2010 TOUR FEATURING LORDS OF ACID & MY LIFE WITH THE THRILL KILL KULT.

May 21, 2010 (Los Angeles) – Sex, drugs, and ageless dance music is one way to describe the twisted story of legends Lords of Acid and My Life With the Thrill Kill Kult, and it is a tale that could make even a nun blush and convert to the devil’s way. Lords of Acid appeared upon a fury of techno sounds, harmonies, and sexually creative charged themes in the 90s, never holding back their true purpose; intoxicating you to the point of orgasm. Praga Khan and his ever evolving line up of deviants has been recruiting fellow like minded fans, live and in clubs, with what seemed to be the greatest of ease with timeless singles such as “I Sit on Acid”, “Rough Sex”, and “Pussy”. Mix this band’s raunchy yet comically enticing lyrics with its raw and unpredictable live presence, and there is no question why the Lords still remain a force to be reckoned with. Their sound has evolved through the years on an epic scale, you just never see it coming. Whether it be their electronic orgy of albums such as ‘Lust’, ‘VooDoo-U’, and ‘Our Little Secret’ to their insemination of more organic crunchy industrial sound on ‘Farstucker’; there is no question why this powerhouse has changed all that you thought you knew about music. Praga Khan’s influence can be felt on every level of pretty much every facet of electronic music, and is not showing any signs of stopping just yet. A couple of years before Lords of Acid began to seduce us with their fresh sound, something wicked, maniacal, and intoxicated was brewing in the American capitol of Industrial culture, Chicago; the name of this demon was My Life With the Thrill Kill Kult. Groovie Mann and co-conspirator Buzz McCoy; began to formulate a concept for an art film that transformed into a musical temple that either offended or expanded legions of minds. The kings of sleaze (and believe me they never argued this title) birthed from the legendary Chicago label Wax Trax! upon themes of drugs, sex, murder, and the Devil. It didn’t take long to have us overdosing on a flurry of such singles like “Kooler Than Jesus”, “Sex on Wheelz”, “Days of Swine and Roses”, “A Daisy Chain 4 Satan”; which to this day can be heard at any Industrial or fetish club night. Their unsettling nature has always been a source of discussion and influence.

The paths of these two monolithic bands crossed once in 1995 on the “Sextacy Ball” tour. To this very day many still write about the experience as one for the ages and have been foaming at the mouth for it to be recreated. This brings us to the present day, and the reincarnation of a tour that warped the minds of thousands! That’s right Lords of Acid and My Life With the Thrill Kill Kult are back together hotter, sleazier, and sure to piss parents off more than ever. Praga Khan’s line up will be sure to put you into a state of pure euphoria simultaneously adding a whole new dimension to classic material you have come to love and worship. Thrill Kill Kult armed with their latest album, 2009’s ‘Death Threat’ and all original members including Jacky Blacque and Sinderella Pussie; are poised to show you how the pros do it. They will be joined by special guests Blownload, fresh from their US tour with yet another Industrial legend The Revolting Cocks; and VampireFreaks/Sic Asylum Productions’ premiere DJ and writer, Rafi Shlosman (aka DeathWish). This will be a tour for the history books ladies and gentlemen, the perfect recipe which blends two true champions of musical and visual stimulation, a new rising band, and a solid DJ to keep you moving. This is a dish best served hot and with nothing short of pure “sextacy” to boot, ready or not we are all cumming for you!

06/17/10 – Twisted Individual, Mayhem, Legion, MC Armanni – The Valarium

Knoxville EDM Presents a HUGE night of DNB:

TWISTED INDIVIDUAL
GRID RECORDINGS || London, UK

Twisteds first releases were back in 1998, and for his debut produced Wales, the biggest track on the now legendary World of Drum and Bass album. Seeing that he was onto a good thing with his new apprentice in 2001 DJ SS entrusted the seminal Lighter into the hands of the Twisted one to see if he could bring it up to date. Whilst working on his debut album he pieced together two of the biggest tunes of that year in the form if his Lighter remix and the F-Word.

Proving that he could mix the rough with smooth the Tooled Up! LP on Formation Records showcased the Twisted sound – he had crafted an album that would get heads talking, and the crowds jumping.

Following the success of Tooled Up!, Twisted found himself in the spotlight, with remix offers and DJ bookings beginning to flood in. Twisted was now able to showcase his skills on the decks all around the world. Picking up regular plays at all the major UK promotions including Slammin Vinyl, One Nation, Telepathy, Best of British, United Dance, Accelerated Culture, as well as residencies at all the Formation and World of Drum & Bass nights all over the World, Twisted is now an exclusive member of the top flight of D&B DJs. Always armed with a bag of fresh dubs to unleash on the crowds, his explosive partnership with MC Biggie has smashed many venues over the past few years. In this time Twisted has also been fortunate enough to have his travels take him all over the world, notching up stamps in his passport and champion hangovers everywhere from Germany to Estonia, USA to Australia, Spain to Brazil and pretty much everywhere else in-between.

As with any popular style of music, when something is successful, the masses will follow, and soon the Twisted clones started to fill the shelves of all the record shops. Not a man known for his restraint, in 2003 Twisted got back in the dungeon and cooked up a message to all those he felt were ripping his sound. Bandwagon Blues exploded onto the scene and instantly became an anthem with rewind after rewind ensuring this was a front runner in every DJs set. Off the back of his previous success and other tracks such as Rusty Sherrif’s Badge, Heavy Metal, and Hand Grenade Twisted found himself up for 3 categories at the 2003 Accelerated Culture Awards, walking away with awards not only for Best Tune for Bandwagon Blues, but also Best Producer.

Since then Twisted has not stopped. Recent tracks such as ‘Swan Cake’, ‘Konga remix’ have kept him at the top of his game. His days are now filled with tours and DJ bookings as well as a spending time in the studio working on a whole variety of projects, dnb and beyond for his own Grid Recordings.

MC ARMANNI REIGN
GASM // 5SIGHTED // SUBSTITUTION // BASSRUSH // TEKDBZ // PLATINUM || Philadelphia, PA

After spending six continuous months as 103.9FM’s freestyle champion, MC Armanni decided he needed a change. The cutthroat and ghetto style of the hip hop industry had given Armanni chills and it was time to switch things up.

His introduction to drum and bass was an experience shared by many first timers; Sutpens’ Jungle, February 2000. His first mixtape was “DJ SS live at Sutpen’s Jungle” on which the vocal skills of MC Skibadee gave Armanni insight to the lyrical potential of drum and bass. Sighting MC Skibadee as one of his influences, Armanni has developed a distinctly powerful and diverse style of lyrical delivery which has garnered respect amongst his peers as well many of the top dnb mcs and djs in the World. Staying true to his hip hop roots, Armanni delivers bounce, flavor and lyrical wizardry.

2003 was a fantastic year for MC Armanni. Not only was he nominated Best Breakthrough MC at the Knowledge Drum and Bass awards, Armanni also became the official Metalheadz Americas MC. He is undoubtedly the most well known lyricist in drum and bass with his popularity surpassing the once indominatable forces of Skibadee, GQ and Dynamite. With releases already on Freak, Intasound and forthcoming Area 51 and Metalheadz Americas, MC Armanni has set his sights on the grand realm.

Armanni performs with many of the top dnb artists at almost all the top shows. Residencies include Bassrush (LA), Platinum, DJ Series, Heavy Duty, Metalheadz, Ultraworld at Sonar and Destination. He has amazed crowds at the World of Drum and Bass, Electric Daisy Carnival, DJ Series, Starscape, Buzz and Ultra. Armanni tours with the likes of Goldie, Dj Rap, Kenny Ken, Ray Keith, DJ Craze, Dieselboy and is frequently sequestered to mc exclusively for many other top djs in the industry.

Having completed his first long play project, “On and Poppin” with MC Sharpness, Armanni is ready to expand his performance repertoire. His vocals are featured on hits of 2004 such as “Ruff, Rugged and Raw”, “Enter the Hive” mix cd . Already his release schedule for 2005 is setting a frenzy in the industry with tracks such as “Uk to Stateside” on Formation, ” Fahrenheit 215″ on Photek’s 51st , “P.H.I.L.L.Y” , Pergatory and a full length hip hop album to be released on Photek’s new label. As the duo, MentalSharp, Armanni and Sharpness will perform live hip hop sets of original material. Thus far, performances by Mentalsharp have received fantastic reviews and future shows are set to raise the bar even higher.

We’re going out on a limb here to try bringing bigger acts through Knoxville. I hope everyone can make it out and support this! If it goes off well this will be the first of many shows to get our town on the DNB map!

+++++++++ Benefit for John Savage ++++++++

An innocent mountain bike ride gone awry. A shattered collar bone. A lack of insurance, coupled with an unfortunate, yet modernly predictable, bout of unemployment. A prognosis that your body will not recover fully without surgery, and no doctor willing to touch you without a lump sum of cash up front.

It's the story of our age. Just another day at the office.

It's the story of John Savage.

Humble, yet forthright, John is a staple of the Knoxville cycling scene, and outspoken "proper" techno jabberjaw. He's also the victim of the modern American nightmare--a deadly combination of corporate downsizing, spiraling healthcare costs, and a splash of plain bad luck.
As his friends, colleagues, and associates--we will not accept this.

Let's come together for a night of incessant dance rhythms and body-enveloping bass, as John would like it (if he could get up and dance)
$5 cover for all, and 100% of door proceeds go directly to John's surgery fund. Come out, have a drink (or two) and dance your asses off for a good cause!

Future Rock is electronic sensory overload. The trio has steadily been touring the US, electrifying audiences and developing a dedicated following during their journey.
Their legendary late night performances at festivals and after-parties have quickly confirmed their status at the top of the live electronic scene. Coupled with an explosive light show, FR certifies an unparalleled multi-sense experience.

Skillfully manipulating live loops, synthesizers, filters and an electronic drum kit, the trio succeeds in creating a larger-than-life sound that sends crowds into frenzies.

FR explains, "We manage to pull off our live show while keeping pre-recorded samples to a minimum. Ninety-nine percent of our live show is live." This concept is at the core of Future Rock: technology has progressed so that real-time sampling and electronic synthesis can now occur on-stage.
"Its really important to not get to geeky with our music. People want to hear songs with melodies or grooves they can dance to. Its a question of utilizing the new technology with the old song structure so that kids can rock out the same way, but to new sounds,"

Based out of San Francisco, J. Tonal, in addition to his own original productions, has done remixes for artists such as Lotus, MO2 and others. J. Tonal has been creating music and throwing events in the SF Bay Area for about 10 years, sharing billing with musicians such as DJ Shadow, DJ Krush, Shpongle, Ott, Jack Dangers from Meat Beat Manifesto, and UFO! Growing up in the foothills of Northern California, J. Tonal was forced at an early age to go in search of a different sound. After moving to LA and immersing himself in the Hip Hop and Electronic music scenes, he started producing in a style that crossed between those two genres. In 1999 he moved to SF and met up with James Christopher, founding the Lowpro Lounge imprint, throwing over 200 events all over the world, and starting the innovative record label Lowpro Lounge Recordings. This LIVE PA Crunkologist will set Asheville on FIRE!

WONDROUS TEMPLE OF BOOM is a collective of djs, producers, visual artists, soundsystem engineers, glass blowers, and crunksters based out Asheville, North Carolina. They regularly hosts some of the biggest sound systems at regional burns, Transformus and Alchemy. They have thrown numerous parties by themselves and also in association with other crews in town such as the sold-out Touch Full Boom party held in Asheville this past New Years. In 2009 they released a compilation of all original material from its members. Wondrous Temple of Boom’s current active roster includes Selector Cleofus, Quetzatl, GalaxC Girl, Intrinsic, Medisin, Agent Wu, D:Raf, Logan Won Kanobi, Pericles, Alex Falk, Shad, and others with connections not only in Asheville but also Knoxville, Charleston, and Nashville.

QUETZATL is an Asheville based all original producer, remixer, and founder of the edm record label Waveform Modulations. He is also one of the original founders of the Wondrous Temple of Boom. Pioneering the LIVE PA format in the Southeast for years, he creates an alien amalgamation of glitch hop, dubstep, fidget house, and heady electro idm. He has released numerous full length albums on multiple labels since the late 1990s and has been booked with the likes of Sound Tribe Sector 9, LTJ Bukem, DJ Spooky, Richard Devine, Eliot Lipp, Mochipet, Hive, Burning Spear and many more.

GALAXC GIRL has been pioneering the multimedia combination of a wicked DJ set with mind bending VJ projections. GalaxC Girl has become one of the hottest and in demand artists in Asheville and beyond. Rocking bassline, fidget house, glitchwomp, and more, GalaxC has DJ’ed or provided visuals for a who’s who of the electronic underground and jamband scene including Umprey’s Mcgee, Toubab Krewe, Benga, Skream, Bluetech, Heyoka, The Flying Skulls, Mochipet, and many more. She has recently gotten into original production with her track “Golden Biscuits” a hit on the Asheville local radio program Freq Lab.

SELECTOR CLEOFUS is an eclectic international dj, producer, promoter, and burner based out of the Asheville, NC area. He is 1/3 of the live improvisational trio the Stereo Crickets, and 1/2 of the dj duo the Dub Brothers and has provided dj support for numerous headliners including Midnite, Joker, Benga, Mark Farina, Dubconscious, Groundation, and others. Cleofus has played throughout the Southeast United States as well as Jamaica. He has been voted in the top 3 club djs in Western North Carolina by readers of the Mountain Express in both 2008 & 2009.

APE KIT is an true international man of mystery. This DJ and producer has been getting attention from European press and dubstep headz all over the southeast. He recently played to a packed house on a bill with Captain Crunk that revealed his current live incarnation, rocking the illest shit hidden behind a mirrored mask. This will be a special follow up to the much talked about Charleston tagteam set with Dubvirus

DUBVIRUS got schooled on dank dub and heavy and grimey beats on the streets of Birmingham, AL. Very little is known about this shrouded dj other than he brings some serious heavy vibrations. He recently played the Wompilicious party in Asheville, NC and debuted the tagteam set with Ape Kit in Charleston in February

J MO is one of Knoxville’s most in demand djs and has been blowing up the scene opening for some real heavy hitters as well as expanding to Asheville where he recently played the Wondrous Temple of Boom: Boom Odyssey party. He has also been added to many of 2010s festival lineups…

05/13/10 – Glitch Mob & Free the Robots – The Valarium

Thursday, May 13
@ The Valarium

9:00 PM Doors

GLITCH MOB
When three friends, Ooah, edIT & Boreta (all noted fixtures on the West Coast underground) team up with a creative vision and positive intentions, the result is a relentless sonic assault on the dance floor of ferocious drums, catastrophic sub bass, and sounds from another world.
It is an unforgiving and punishing physical audio experience that will leave your body beat to the core and your soul wanting more.
It is the gift of music from this three man collaboration with the intention to unite the masses on the dance floor through trying times.
It is the experience of being slayed……
by The Glitch Mob

Let us exorcise your demons!

Free The Robots
Chris Alfaro is Free the Robots. The genre-defying artist pulls together heavy doses of traditional jazz, Hip-Hop, psychedelic sounds, Indian spice, progressive melodies, obscure samples and devastating drums into a rich pot of sound. His techniques create harmony between genres with the blending obscure samples with analog and digital compositions.
Based out of Santa Ana, CA, Free The Robots started as a side project by Alfaro in 2003 while also playing with different bands, producing MC’s, and DJing full time.
Free the Robots has reached a worldwide audience since its humble beginnings and found its place among the top artists in this genre. Since the development of Alfaro’s live show, Free the Robots has shared the stage with the likes of Prefuse 73, Afrika Bambaataa, Flying Lotus, and Devotchka.

04/23/10 – Transition || Dub/Tek t. Skektek, Mark B, Greg Alan, Will Azada – Level 10

Transition @ Level 10 is pleased to bring you a Friday Dub / Tech Edition April 23rd. This month’s Transition featured artist are bringing in the spring heat with a selection of intertwined sounds from across the dub and tech spectrum featuring DJ’s Skektek, Mark B, Gregory Alan, and Will Azada

—————————————————————————————————-

Skektek – Represent, Nashville, TN *dubstep*
http://facebook.com/djskektek
http://soundcloud.com/dj-skektek

After falling in love with EDM in the Washington DC rave scene of the mid-late 90’s, Ryan Walker bought his first set of turntables in 1999 and began spinning drum n bass. As a reflection of his dark, techy style at the time, he took up the moniker SkekTek, referring to the scientist of the evil Skeksis in Jim Henson’s The Dark Crystal. Over the years, his style has broadened to include all kinds of drum n bass: vocal, liquid funk, neurofunk, dancefloor, techstep, and more. His 2005 mix CD, Deadly Venoms, is a testament to his quick, energetic mixing style and his tendency to flow from one style of dnb to another within his sets.

After playing at several clubs and even more house parties in the DC and VA area, SkekTek moved to Nashville at the end of 2005. Since then, he has continued playing house parties, while also performing at events at The End, Kazu, and Mai. Over the past year, he has found a new love in the gritty, warped basslines of the new dubstep sound, and a SkekTek set today is likely to include both dubstep and dnb elements.

In March, SkekTek won the 2010 Mai DJ Competition, and traveled to Miami to perform at the Bassdrive Label Launch party at the Winter Music Conference, along with Bailey and A-Sides. He was also featured on Squake’s Represent Radio show on Bassdrive.com.

—————————————————————————————————

Will Azada *dubstep, garage, dubtechno*

Eccentric, wonky, deep, and funky are probably the best qualifiers for Will’s sets. You can expect an eclectic mix of dubstep, future garage, and mnmlbass, with a taste that ranges the the gritty and deep, influenced by artists such as Rustie, Deadboy, Joy Orbison, Appleblim, Boxcutter, and Headhunter. Both a producer and DJ, Will Azada provides a perspective to electronic dance music that is rare in the local scene, straddling the lines throughout techno, house, dubstep, variable electronica–whether you know it or not.

————————————————————————————————-

Mark B *techno, tech-house*

DJ Mark B has been throwing it down in the Knoxville scene for years. Fed on hip-hop, he’s got a funky take on techno and house music that translates into bumpin, jackin, upbeat sets. Mark B is also quite the wild one, when he’s really feeling the music. If he’s feeling it, you’re feeling it.

————————————————————————————————–

Gregory Alan *techno*

A rising force in the Knoxville electronic music movement, Greg has been at it for several years, playing all around town with his diverse, deep, and consistently powerful techno sets. He has a love for music that few DJs can honestly attest to, and shows it in his strong mixes. He’ll be laying down a special set of techno, tech-house, and minimal for all to enjoy.

10:00-11:15pm – WILL AZADA (dubstep, garage, dubtech)
11:15-12:30am – SKEKTEK (dubstep)
12:30-1:45am – MARK B (tech-house, techno)
1:45-3:00am – GREGORY ALAN (techno)

04/22/10 – TOKiMONSTA, The Midnight Ace, and Spook Nasty – 90 Proof / Southbound

TOKiMONSTA:

“You don’t need Pepto, you need some BEATS!” -TOKi

Born and raised in the South Bay area of Los Angeles, TOKiMONSTA (Jennifer Lee) was an unfocused pupil of classical piano. However, she has come to use this background to create vast textural soundscapes by utilizing live instruments, percussion, digital manipulation, and dusty vinyl. Through the creation of beats, she is able to fuse vintage styles with progressive sounds into something unique–all while preserving old school vibes.
She is praised by the very best in avant-garde hip hop and electronica. Mary Anne Hobbs has featured an exclusive mix of TOKiMONSTA tracks on her BBC Radio 1 program. MAH has said, “WOW! This girl is absolutely incredible” and “She’s my favorite female producer on the planet!” Not only has she caught eyes of many as one of the most talented producers worldwide, TOKi is also the first female to join Flying Lotus’ Los Angeles-based crew/label BRAINFEEDER. Her music has also been featured on various radio programs such as Giles Peterson on BBC Radio1, on Studio Brussels (BE), Radio Nova (FR), KCRW to name a few. One great crowning achievement is her induction into the 2010 London Red Bull Music Academy (notable affiliates: Flying Lotus, Mr Hudson, Benga, Theo Parrish). Being one of the only three picked from the US and of sixty total worldwide, she will be joining the music elite to set the pace for the future of music. Her live performance is engaging as well as intricate—using a laptop and other pieces of musical and multimedia gear. She is fearless and energetic having performed with the likes of Flying Lotus, Daedelus, Nosaj Thing, Gaslamp Killer, and many other of her peers.

with support by The Funnel and Gregory Alan

Club Level 10

DETROIT MOVEMENT PRE-PARTY in Knoxville!

From the techno freaks who brought you Don’t Techno For An Answer, we have some authentic Detroit techno veterans coming out to do a special Movement pre-party in Knoxville!

Please welcome DTM Soldiers DJ Seoul and T. Linder for a special 2-hour, 4 turntable, tag-team set of proper Detroit techno and electro madness, with a heavy dose of high-speed scratching and turntablism!

DJ Seoul

DJ Seoul is one of America’s leading ambassadors of Detroit Techno and Techno Bass. As a soldier for the Detroit Techno Militia, this powerhouse DJ has been spreading the gospel of Techno throughout the world for the past fifteen years. With lightning fast mixing skills and exceptionally technical scratches and juggles, Seoul brings an energy to the dancefloor that is rarely seen. As a producer, his work on the Detroit Techno Militia record label and his remixes for Drugaci Exhibitions have garnered him worldwide acclaim. DJ Seoul gives the crowd one hundred percent every time he performs. This energy is clearly visible and reciprocated by the audience.

If a citizen of Detroit could be considered an asset, then DJ Seoul would be one of the most beloved. By representing his home town globally and by playing Detroit Music, Seoul continues to carry the torch that was handed to him by the greats that came before him. Playing music, from Electro, Techno and Acid, to House, Soul and Rare Groove, this trend setting performer has become known for his style of bringing a Hip-Hop Turntablist flair for mixing and scratching to his DJ set regardless of genre.

Before he was a full-time DJ, Seoul spent many years in the music industry. Raised on the East side of Detroit, he began his musical career at a young age through various counterculture sounds and movements. His formal training began in 1985 with the drums and continues today with both traditional and electronic instruments. Coming from a very diverse musical and cultural background, Seoul cites many different personal influences including Jeff Mills as The Wizard, Terrence Parker, Dave Clarke and Underground Resistance.

In 1996, he co-founded the Bang Tech 12 management company with Greg Montgomery aka. DJ Eclipse. Bang Tech 12 has represented many acts over the years that have gone on to influence the world, including Magda, DJ Minx, Jerry The Cat, DJ Mo Reese and Jacq. Bang Tech 12 has grown and continues today as a leader in the industry with branches in five states. With over 30 different acts under their wing, Bang Tech 12 is a symbol of quality that spans the entire globe.
In addition to a fifteen year DJ career that has taken him across the world, DJ Seoul writes and produces electronic music with great attention to detail. His personal studio is filled with vintage synthesizers and drum machines which he uses to create music with a very distinct sound. He has been featured on Television and Radio worldwide including FOX 2 News: Detroit, and Dave Clarke’s White Noise Radio on 3VOOR12 as well as countless radio stations across the United States. One can find DJ Seoul’s production work worldwide on the Detroit Techno Militia and Drugaci Exhibitions record labels, as well as his own label; Bang Tech 12.

T. Linder

T.Linder takes a no-nonsense, working-class approach to the art of spinningrecords. He cites old-school Detroit street jocks: The Wizard (aka. JeffMills), Gary Chandler, and Steve “DJ Energy” Crawford among others,as major inspirations for his unorthodox aesthetic. “If someone’s going to pay money to hear me spin, I’m going to make it worth their money. The way I look at it, there’s too many DJs out there meticulously and methodically blending records that all sound the same. As a listener, I’m easily bored with that. I like to take some risks when I perform, skipping across genres and eras, doing scratch tricks with two copies of the same record. I want to give the listener the experience of hearing something they haven’t heard before.”

Over the past decade, T.Linder has kept a busy performance schedule that hastaken him to literally thousands of events across North America. Hehas played at most, if not all, of the venues in Detroit catering to ElectronicMusic. Notably, 2030 Grand River, The Works, Motor Lounge,St.Andrew’s Hall, and the Underground Stage at the 2002 Detroit ElectronicMusic Festival (a gig that he considers one of his career highlights).

In 2007, T.Linder released his first EP entitled DTM002, on Detroit Techno Militia (a record label/artist collective that heco-founded). He has also done remix projects for legendary DetroitTechno producers K.Hand, and Scan 7.

In the future he plans to continue doing what he has does best, creating andplaying timeless records, and asserting his position within the rich history ofDetroit Techno. “A lot of DJs are switching over digitaltechnology as a medium for their performances. I’ve been veryreluctant to take that step. I am a vinyl DJ first and foremost, so I’llprobably play records until my favorite labels stop pressingthem. Mainly because I find them more reliable. I’venever had a record crate crash in the middle of one of my shows and kill all ofthe music. Additionally, I think there’s something to be said for the traditionof DJs playing old fashioned wax with analog turntables. Music from the future, made and performed with equipment from the past!”
